Diane Firtell

Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in NYC, Diane moved to the Berkshires 20 years ago. Never considering herself a photographer but an “artist who uses a camera”, she has always had a love for photography, appreciating nature, the community, and travel, all while capturing new images.

Her work is conceptual and highly driven by nature, is strongly inspired by color, pattern, texture, mood and movement often found when looking at bucolic landscapes, flowers and farmers market finds.

366iPhone is a project Diane began January 1st, 2016, taking photos every day and attempting to incorporate the images into art that will ultimately represent a daily visual exploration of 2016.  The project morphed from single photos on small canvases to much more complex digital collages in larger format, transferred to various surfaces evolving from original photos with the addition of pastel to enhance the spirit of the piece.

Diane studied at Hunter College, the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Art Students League, in Manhattan and received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, NYC as well as various teachers throughout her career
