Biography
Stan Taft received a B.F.A. degree with a concentration in painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts and a M.F.A. degree in painting from Fort Wright College. He has taught at the State University of New York, College at Purchase, was Artist in Residence at the University of Iowa. He has taught in the Art Department at Cornell University since 1985 in Ithaca, NY and at the Cornell University program in Rome, Italy.
He has received project grants from the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University with collaborator John Zissovici, and from the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies at Cornell University. His publications include co-authorship of articles on the analysis of artist pigments in the Journal of the Materials Research Society and he is principal author with James Mayer of The Science of Paintings published by Springer-Verlag. His studio practice focuses primarily on painting, drawing and sculpture applied to subjects relating to Italian culture and landscape, and to the landscape of the New York Finger Lakes. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally.
